If you want to travel to far
away places with the security and convenience
of a package tour, yet dont want to join
the herd, Coromandel is for you. We apply personal
attention and many years of experience to the
task of creating a holiday thats just right
for you.

As
well as the private individual tours we
have always arranged, we also offer river
cruises on a GROUP basis which are operated
on set dates. These trips are ideal for
those who would rather travel in company
with other like-minded people. All group
arrangements are highlighted with grey background.
|
|
| |
| Our PRIVATE individual
tours are based on a minimum two people travelling,
but can be recosted for one person travelling alone.
As always, they can be freely modified to suit your
own personal requirements, or we can create an itinerary
specially for you. Remember though that we do need
reasonable notice to book the more popular hotels
and flights at the height of the season. Just as
with any group tour, you are met and seen off at
airports and stations, and in most places we arrange
local guides to take you around at your own pace. |
|
Many of our tours are with car or minibus and driver;
its a marvellous way to see the countryside
as well as cities, while having somebody on hand
to smooth your way. The driver will act as interpreter,
route finder and watchman, as well as safely conducting
you through chaotic road conditions. At major centres,
a guide will join you for sightseeing (in Burma
and Iran a guide accompanies you throughout). The
cars are often old-fashioned (eg Morris Oxford in
India, Hillman Hunter in Persia, middle-aged Toyota
in Burma), but this ensures easy repair if problems
arise. Not all cars are airconditioned, and not
all have seat belts - we endeavour to provide these
features, sometimes at extra cost, when we are specially
asked to.

Wherever possible, we use small
and atmospheric hotels, many of which dont
usually accept package tours. Often colonial in
origin, or deriving from local traditions, they
vary from the simple to the luxurious, and in
none are you likely to be surrounded by crowds
of compatriots.
|
|
|
We
offer a choice of hotel categories on some of
our tours. SELECT hotels, those mentioned in the
body of the itinerary, are those we would personally
choose if money were not the primary concern.
In larger cities they are usually
one grade down from the best, but elsewhere are
either the best available or possess special character
or attraction.
|
VALUE hotels involve more of a compromise; some
lack atmosphere, or are less well located, some
are simply not very good or well run. If you have
more time than money this option allows you to visit
the same places and see the same sights for significantly
less. |

To satisfy Brussels,
we now show our own classification of hotels used
- L= luxurious, C = comfortable, S = simple, B =
basic. The addition of an * in any category means
that the hotel is specially atmospheric, historic
or well-located. Simple hotels are often superb,
but are lacking in amenities such as lifts, while
Basic means we either use it faute de mieux or
because although poor it is redeemed by location
or |

|
atmosphere.
Needless to say, any categorisation can be and
often is misleading, so we recommend you ring
us to discuss individual hotels.
We provide a good deal of basic travel information
in this brochure, but it is not intended as a
substitute for a guidebook. We believe that in
order to understand the sensitivities and susceptibilities
of alien cultures it is vital that you have also
read a guide book to your destination (one of
the reasons why we are not keen on last-minute
bookings). We provide reading lists for our clients
advising the best for each destination, or do
ring us for a recommendation.
